Oriental furniture and items 1Oriental antiques and furniture, which have always held a special place for home design. Lacquered or cleverly carved pieces of furniture; hand painted or cleverly inlaid with precious and semi-precious stones live comfortably with European style lounge sets, glass coffee tables and even popular cane tables and chairs—and look at home among them. Homemakers, alternatively create little Oriental corners in their home design. Oriental relics and reproductions have not merely become collector’s items—practical use has found for them. Chinese or Japanese screens, for example, make beautiful bed heads and partitions in the rooms or they look quite effective mounted on the wall, Multi-purpose chests and boxes, made in the olden days are converted into side tables, coffee tables or occasional tables decorative items.

Rosewood stands, polished to a shine fill up empty corners and become “accents” in the home when further decorated with a vase of fresh flowers or even a table clock. Dowry boxes can be adapted to modern use to keep sewing materials. Three Oriental corner’s in the home of Mrs. Pauline. This occupies a corner between the two short stairs leading to the split-level living room. Among foliage and fauna, Mrs. Pauline has placed her Oriental collection of martaban jar, Japanese saki basket, Indian elephant and Chinese garden stool etc. A small tea corner’s where a chinoiserie chest is flanked by two three-cornered Chinese chairs.
